Gross Built Area:
9,247m²
Building Type:
hospital - 160 beds
Scope of Work:
PM - design team
Status:
completed 2007

A 160-bed rehabilitation hospital in the eastern suburb of Tokyo features a circular plan and rooftop garden (for walking exercise), all private patient rooms (rather rare in Japan), and the central atrium lobby where singing and piano recitals entertain inpatients as well as outpatients under the natural light coming through the oculus. The overall design quality was so outstanding that it helped attract medical staff (good working environment) as well as numerous tour requests by hospitals and municipalities from all corners of the world considering a new hospital building.
